Starting Out In Agility
If you are starting out in agility and want to be competitive at Kennel Club events there are things that you need to know.
Your dog can not compete until it is 18 months old.
You will need to register your dog with the Kennel Club. Do this at the earliest opportunity, it can take a while.
You will need a record book. They can be purchased from the Kennel Club. The club may have some in stock that you can buy.
You will need to get your dog officially measured.
This is to determine at what height it will compete at, large, intermediate, medium or small.
If your dog is obviously large it is not required to be measured.
Measuring is conducted by two authorised measurers.
After the first measure you can start competing.
If your dog is not signed off as large, it will have to have a second measure, with different measurers.
This must take place after the anniversary of your dog's first measure and before the second anniversary.
If the second measure is different from the first a third measure is required within two months of the second measure.
The measurers can not be any of the ones involved in the previous measuring sessions.
If you fail to get the second or third measure of a dog done before the last date it is required by, you can not compete with that dog until the measure is completed.
You will probably have plenty of questions, don't be afraid to ask.
Here is one last Kennel Club link that may help you. Starting out in agility.
You may wish to try out agility with another organisation UKA. Their rules and procedures are slightly different.
